A RESEARCH PROJECT ABOUT UKRAINIAN FOOD CULTURE ABROAD
The Ukraine Abroad project explores the diet and food culture of Ukrainians impacted by the war with Russia. Many Ukrainians have settled in new countries, and the goal of the project is to examine how their culinary practices, preferences, daily diet, and food traditions have changed since relocating. The project will begin in the Summer of 2023.
Through interviews, surveys, and ethnographic research, the project will investigate how Ukrainians have adapted their traditional cuisine to local ingredients and culinary techniques while preserving their cultural identity. The project will also explore the food culture of the countries where they have settled.
Focus Areas
As the research progresses, the goal is to focus on specific stories and communities. For now, the focus areas will be broad and related to the following countries and cities.
